This summer Matt and Liz are going to Italy!
Some of you may remember our blog from our trip to Europe last year. Originally we intended it to be a fun little peek into our first real vacation together. A nice way for our friends and relatives to see how we were handling ourselves during our exciting new adventures, and to share some fantastic photos along the way. But now, looking back at that blog, It reads a little more like a picture book about two beer-obsessed fiends with insatiable appetites, bent on spending as much money as possible on gorging themselves.
Okay, maybe it wasn't that bad, but this year we have decided to try something a little different. This year we will attempt a 'BinBlog'. The 'Bin' stands for Binaural, as in binaural audio.
Let me explain.
We have set up a website which will act as a blog, but will have a unique emphasis on audio. As we travel through Rome, Florence, Bologna and Venice we will be taking binaural recordings. Then we will post these recordings along with pictures of the recording location on this site for you to listen to and enjoy. What makes this unique is that these recordings are Binaural. They will be captured with little microphones that will be placed in our ears to record exactly the way that we hear. Using the binaural technique, the result is a three-dimensional sound recording. Just like in real life, you will be able to hear sounds behind you, in front of you, above and below you. The only catch is that the 3-D effect can only be heard in headphones. You must use headphones to listen back to the recordings if you want to experience true binaural sound. (And please believe us, it's well worth it!) If you are interested in learning more about Binaural audio just google it. The technology has been around for a very long time and you will find plenty of good info. Okay, that's enough tech talk. Hear it to believe it. We will be stopping in Rome first and working our way up north to Venice over ten days. To use the site is simple. Everything starts with the BinWorld Map.
Click on a city to begin your Binaural tour. Don't forget to plug in your headphones!
